Coming home with my manzel, finally, instead of a second manzelka [Thursday
September 21st, 2006 at 8:18pm]
[ mood | amused and curious ]
[ music | Rodney being a hypochondriac ]

Radek shook his head and said, "No, Rodney, I already told you I am not going through the gender transformation!"

"Oh come on! You'd make a hot girl! And coming from me, that's saying something," Rodney said with exaggerated hand gestures as they walked into the suite...

...only to run directly into a baby carriage.

Rodney grabbed his foot and started hopping around, yelling "Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow!" while Radek snickered and inspected the baby store that had replaced their living room.

Walking further into the room, Radek called out, "Hello? Is anyone home?"

Offering thanks [Thursday
August 3rd, 2006 at 7:17pm]
[ mood | grateful ]

Radek kneels in front of the altar, his offerings of cordite, flat blini, and incense already laid out. Hands in his lap, palms up, he raises his face to the sky in suplication, his eyes closed. //I call upon our Lady of Winter and Death, Morena, and our Lady of Spring and Renewal, Dodola, to bless this circle and to please accept these humble offerings given in your names.//

Smiling at first the chill then the breeze that ghosted over him, Radek lowered his head and opened his eyes to stare at the print outs of his goddesses. //My Ladies...I cannot thank you enough for what you have given my wife. Thank you. She is so very happy right now. You have given her--given all of us--a child. A child. Something small and precious and a part of my beloved that will live on after we are gone from this world.//

He bowed his head before raising it again, his tone much softer than before. //I know now this for the test it was, my Ladies, and I don't fault you for it. Nor do I hold it against you or John. How could I? You have given us what we wanted most in the world--a child. A child that was created out of love and that is a part of my wife...no. I do not care which of us is the true father; we are all fathers.//

Radek scooted back a foot or so then bowed down until his forehead touched the deck, his palms beside his head. //You have my deepest thanks, my Lady Morena and my Lady Dodola. Thank you for this most gracious gift.// He remained like that for several minutes before slowly rising, first to a kneeling then slowly standing. He bowed deeply to the altar then backed away from it for twenty one paces before bowing again. Only then did he turn and walk away.

Mrs. Jean Miller [Tuesday
July 18th, 2006 at 4:32pm]
[ mood | calm ]

Radek rolled his neck as he stepped off the plane and stood on his toes--why did everyone here have to be so damned tall?!--to look for Jeannie. She'd said over the phone that she'd meet them at the gate and take them to her house, where they'd stay the night and the following day before continuing on to the SGC in Colorado.

And peering over the crowd, one hand gripping Rae's while the other held his carry case, he spotted a woman who was practically the spitting image of Rodney. She had dark blonde hair pulled back from her face and wore jeans and a simple shirt--clothes that screamed 'housewife'. As Radek and Rae got closer, they could see Rodney's eyes looking back at them, though the crows feet at their corners suggested that Jeannie smiled much more than her brother. Which she did as she opened her arms and hugged them both.

"You must be Radek and Rachel! I'm so happy to finally meet you." She took a step back and grabbed Rae's hand before leading them to the baggage claim. Radek and Rae had sent most of their stuff on to Colorado, but they still had a few suitcases with them. As they walked, Jeannie explained that her husband was away on business and wouldn't be joining them while they were visiting this trip, her daughter, Maire, was at choir practice. "Voice of an angel, which she had to have gotten from Grams because she sure as hell didn't get it from the rest of the McKays!" Jeannie said while laughing.

Once at her house--a modest brick home in the suburbs--Jeannie showed them to the guest room and told them to make themselves at home. "I have to pick Maire up, but we should be back in thirty minutes. Kitchen and coffee's in there, living room and media center's in there, library is in there, bathrooms are here, and here, my room and Maire's are here and here and just about every room has internet access except the bathrooms, so feel free to connect." Jeannie smiled at the two of them. "Like I said, you guys are family; my home's your home."

Radek stared after Jeannie'd left then turned to Rae. "Am I only one feeling like I was hit my Hurricane McKay?"

Meeting Zora [Tuesday
July 11th, 2006 at 2:09pm]
[ mood | nervous ]

Radek was obviously nervous in the cab. He kept rubbing his damp hands over his thighs, adjusting his glasses, even running a hand through his hair. He didn't know why he was so nervous; this was his beloved sister. He loved her as much, if not more than, the woman sitting beside him. He'd stood my her as she gave birth to his nephew, for gods sake.

He hadn't seen her in over two years and that last meeting had been only half a day. Half a day filled with many angry words and much bruising on his part. He was older than Zora by seven years, but she was by far the more violent of the two of them. If she had been allowed, he knew she would have joined the military in his place.

Then there was no time for further woolgathering because they had arrived. He paid the cab driver then helped him unload their bags. //Thank you.// With a nod the cab driver left and Radek and Rae were left standing on the front stoop of an old stone house. He was glad that Zora had taken his, admittedly unsubtle, advise and moved from the apartments to a true home. Between her own money and her share of his, she could probably afford something a little better than this, but with this she could live more than comfortably so it worked out.

Licking his lips and pushing his glasses up his nose one final time, Radek knocked on the door.

From the latest databurst from Earth [Wednesday
June 21st, 2006 at 1:56pm]
[ mood | curious ]

Radek shook his head as he walked into his office, head down as he typed away at his tablet. Rodney was right--they had morons for minions. Logically he knew that these were the best on Earth (that could be spared, that is) but most times they didn't act like it. It was very much like a very private school here. Everyone knew everyone else's business and always had at least two cents to say about it, if not more.

Today's gossip that he had to break up so that his people would get some actual work done was about the return of Dr. Heightmeyer. Radek had already known, of course, because Rodney had bitched and moaned about it for three hours the day she returned. It had taken some very creative use of caramel sauce and whipped cream to calm him down again.

He transfered the data in his tablet to his laptop and sat down to a long afternoon of work. Sometimes he hated how Rodney pushed the 'minor' details of administration onto him.

Opening his email, he saw that he had a letter from his sister, Zora. Must have come with the databurst. Eager to hear what she had to say, Radek clicked on it...

Alt!Radek and Alt!Rachel's video and letter [Monday

[ mood | curious ]
[ music | Alt!Radek's video ]

After dinner, Radek took his daughter to the office to watch the video her Tatka sent. He was glad to see that Carson or John one had evidently removed the emails from Rae's computer. Or at least saved them and tucked them away.

He set the CD in the player then sat in a chair and pulled Míla onto his lap. //Ready, Míla? Lets see what your Tatka has to say.//

A long overdue letter [Tuesday
June 6th, 2006 at 3:24pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

Radek sat in front of his laptop after breakfast. The kolache had been a welcome treat and he really must thank Rezavý properly later on. As they sat at the table, however, he remembered something he had been putting off for a long time. The letter to his sister, Zora. She was unaware that he was married to Rachel, let alone three other men. But it was one crisis after another lately and there was hardly any time to sit and write it out. Now, though, he could put it off no long.

To: Zora Zelenka
From: Dr. Radek Zelenka, PhD
Re: Greetings!
Att: contactinfo.doc

My dear sister,

I apologize for taking so long to write but there is so much here to discover. I cannot say much because, as you know, it is classified, but I can say that there is nothing on Earth that can compare to the wonders we continue to find here. I so do wish you could see the base I am on, Zora. It is beautiful.

Last time I wrote, I told you about John, Rodney and Carson, though our relationship was fairly new at the time. Now, we come past our one year aniversary. I know it is hard to believe that we four have remained together this long, but it is true. I love them so very much. I don't know what I would do if something happened to any of them.

Not too long ago, we almost lost Rodney to a stroke. Too much coffee, a poor diet, little exercise other than running several miles once a week and the stress of leading the science department nearly took him from us. Carson and Rachel lit into him for that stunt. Now Rachel makes us all eat healthy foods and no coffee. Tea is nice, yes, but I miss coffee.

Oh. That is the other reason for this letter. And it's lateness. Rachel MacGregor. She has worked for me since I was stationed in Antarctica, but events months ago made me realize that she was a woman. I can't say it any other way than that I was hit with a clue-by-four, to use Rachel's term. We dated for about a few months, letting the others get used to her.

Then she proposed.

Yes, sister, you read right. She proposed to us. I wish you could have attended the wedding. It was lovely. We are the first married polygamous group on base. Five of us together and we work, sister. You would not think so with such differing personalities.

But about Rachel. She is amazing. Funny and kind and sweet and quick witted and not afraid to stand up to Rodney--this is a very important trait, as very few people do. She is gifted in the field of electrical engineering and has saved us much time with her expertise. And she has done something amazing, Zora. Absolutely amazing.

You remember how I said that I likely would not be allowed to return home because of the...skill I aquired in the military? A new discovery of hers gave her the leverage to...convince those in power that I be allowed to visit home. I can come home, Zora! We plan on coming to visit in a few weeks, a month at most. There are some loose ends we must tidy up before we leave.

Rodney talked about some personal belongings he would like us to retrieve for him, so we will probably leave earlier than we could otherwise, but we will be allowed several weeks to visit. Isn't that wonderful?

Oh, forgive my manners (I must have been around Rodney for too long), sister. How are you? And Aleš? He is ten now, isn't he? Perhaps, if my superiors allow it, I can bring you each home a gift from where I am. The native people are very skilled artisans. I will commission some of their work, I think. Perhaps a few blankets and some jewelry. What would Aleš like, do you think? They can make almost anything from the natural resources available. Let me know?

I must go now. There is work to do, yes, but first I wish to sample some more of my wife's kolache. She spent some time in our country and her kolache is some of the best I have tasted. Perhaps she could make some for us when we come?

Love always,
Radousek

Radek hit send then reached up under his glasses to rub his eyes. The databurst would be tomorrow morning. Another sigh, then he stood and left the home office. He had not lied when he said there was work to do. He needed to run some final scans on the Mirror then straighten out some minor squabble in Lab 20 involving an Ancient deep fryer and Dr. Sanchez's hair. Idiots.

One last goodbye kiss to the spouses and his daughter and Radek was off.

Ten thousand year old cities should come with repair manuals... [Wednesday
May 31st, 2006 at 7:04pm]
[ mood | frustrated ]

Radek cursed softly in Czech as he shocked himself trying to fix the crystals controlling the systems in the art gallery that was recently discovered. He was in the wall up to his knees, laying on his back as he worked on the crystal matrix above him. This was an amazing find, and the anthropology department was in tears, but they couldn't get the display cases to light up or open to let the scientists do their work. Hence the repairs. He would have fobbed them off on a minion if he trusted them to do such delicate work properly.

Muttering and cursing at random intervals, Radek doesn't hear the door open.

Ancient craftsmenship at work [Friday
May 26th, 2006 at 12:00am]
[ mood | morose ]

After his nap with Carson and Rae, Radek headed down the Mirror lab to inspect the damage. This would be the first time he'd actually seen the Mirror since Emílie had arrived. Rodney had said that the shards of glass extended to within about a foot of the doorway so Radek was careful when he entered the lab. He needn't have worried, however.

For in the middle of the room was a puddle about three inches wide of what looked like mercury. Scattered around the room between the doorway and the Mirror's frame were similar puddles and drops. As he watched, two larger drops came together to form a small puddle. The shards of glass were no where to be found and even Kavanagh would have been able to tell what was happening.

//My god...it is rebuilding itself.//

Radek walked around the room, carefully stepping over and around the drops and puddles as he passed them. He made his way to the counter where Rodney and Emílie had sat and picked up a pen. Kneeling beside two small puddles and a large drop, he carefully used the pen to guide the drop to one of the puddles. It was hard to move, like trying to move a small brick, but he finally got it to go into one of the puddles.

So, the Mirror would heal on it's own. At the very least, the glass would repair itself. If one drop was that heavy, then the puddles would be that much more difficult. No. It was easier to let them reconnect on their own. Perhaps help the farthest drops to a puddle, but otherwise...

He sat back on his heals and watched the various drops and puddles slowly move towards the central puddle. They moved at a rate of maybe a centimeter every thirty seconds. With as many pieces as he could see, it would take roughly a week for the surface of the Mirror to reform.

Radek sighed heavily as he stared sadly at the puddles in front of him. //And then Míla goes home.//

Family Meeting...didn't we just have one of these? [Sunday

[ mood | curious ]

Radek's the first home and so he sets the kettle to boil in preparation for the tea he knows they'll probably need. There had been a note in Rodney's voice. Almost as if he were...overwhelmed? But what would cause him to call another family meeting?

He just has the tea set when Rae arrives. "Rezavý." Radek walks over and kisses her briefly hello. "Come, I have made tea. I have a feeling we will need it."

*indistinct cursing in Czech* [Tuesday
April 18th, 2006 at 4:06pm]
[ mood | concerned ]

My Rezavý is stuck on a goa'uld ship with Drs. Jackson and Rayner, and dead Jaffa. Rodney and John have flown off to save the day while Carson runs to meet them with medical personnel. Me? I am left with the body of a goa'uld clone who took my wife and implanted her with a snake. I have shot out his spine and put a knife through his left hand and he still laughs. The goa'uld Ba'al gloats about how more are coming and how his wife will be avenged.

Yes, well, now he understands how I feel.

I tune the comm to the 'family' channel and smile at the banter between John and Rodney. I know I am scaring the marines--I am smiling and carry Morena strapped to my back while a goa'uld I shot writhes at my feet--but I do not care. My beloved is safe. I tap the comm after Rodney tells Carson to meet them on the pier.

"My Rezavý, are you well?" //Did the goa'uld touch you? Hurt you?// I swear by Morena, Chernobog and Dodola that I will make the filth at my feet pay a thousand fold for every bruise, scratch and, hell, even a chipped finger nail, that my beloved returns with.

In the gateroom [Thursday
April 13th, 2006 at 6:10pm]
[ mood | determined ]

Radek walked past curious personnel. He didn't appear to them as he normally did, the absent-minded scientist. He wore his contacts, for one. His usually wild hair was slicked back with some of John's gell and he wore John's field uniform--black long-sleeved shirt and black pants. Over his back was a long black case that resembled perhaps a case used for surveying equipment.

Most probably would have brushed all this off as him prepping for off-world, except everyone knew there was a trap for Ba'al today. And even if they had not known about that, the blank look on Radek's face and the cold look in his eyes would have given him away. He also moved differently; he moved like a hunter, like a soldier.

He'd removed his rings for this task; it wouldn't do for the light to reflect off them or for them to clink against Morena's stock. Radek surprised those in the control room by deftly scaling the side wall and somehow finding a place in the tiny nook above the gate to remove and open the case on his back. Those who could see were shocked when he pulled out what some might recognize as a modified L96 sniper rifle. It was matte black, but on the stock it looked like there was a design of some sort etched into it. No one could see the details from so far away, however.

Radek closed Morena's case after putting Morena over his shoulder and removing the three throwing knives he had stored in there. They were also matte black and he stored them in the specially designed slits on the black wrist guards he wore. He secured Morena's case then continued to scale the ceiling until he was directly above the stargate. It took a bit of maneuvering to wedge himself into the small nooks, cranies and beams of the ceiling but he managed it.

He'd made certain that there was a place to brace Morena and once he was in position Radek set about getting Morena ready. There was room to move Morena if he needed to adjust his aim and room to throw his knives. He was set.

Ignoring the looks he was getting from the personnel below him, Radek tapped his comm. "Zelenka to McKay. I am in position."

Rodney walked into the control room and looked up above the gate where Radek was hanging. Tilting his head and crossing his arms, Rodney asked, "You ever consider trying out for the role of Spiderman, Radek? Cause I'm pretty sure you'd get it."

Radek glared down at Rodney. "Very funny, McKay. Is Rachel ready?" He pushed down the sudden fit of nerves that hit him at the thought of facing Rachel while she was dressed up as Astarte. Now wasn't the time.

"Yeah, she's ready. Wanted to check on you, though. You sure you can do this?" Rodney watched Radek worriedly.

Sighing, Radek nodded, knowing Rodney would see it. "Yes, Rodney, I am ready. Tell Rachel not to worry about me. She must do her part flawlessly if this is to succeed."

"I know. She said...she said to tell you she loves you. Also...no matter what, she's still Rachel, not Astarte." Rodney sighed. "I'll go back to check on her. Good luck." Rodney waved to Radek then went back to Rachel.

Radek watched Rodney go with a heavy heart. He had a bad feeling about this. Something was going to go wrong, he just knew it. Unfortunately, they needed to complete this plan so he pushed his worries down.

After the meeting about Ba'al [Thursday

Long hours, long days [Monday
April 3rd, 2006 at 11:01am]
[ mood | exhausted ]

Radek paused in his work to rub his eyes, pushing his glasses up in the process. The words and numbers were beginning to blur again, meaning he must sleep. He tried not to sleep these days. Whenever he closed his eyes, he saw that perfect night again, only this time he saw it as it was--with a monster in the place of his wife. He'd already woken up once only to be violently ill; he'd rather not repeat the experience.

It was...interesting, avoiding everyone. Especially his husbands and wife. He hadn't returned to the group suite, Rodney, Carson or John's private rooms since that first night. He could put this on them; couldn't burden them with his pain. Besides, their own pain and pity would just compound his own.

So he avoided everyone. He worked in the outer reaches that were never fully repaired after the storm and the siege. He ate either MREs pilfered from Supply or ate in the mess hall after everyone had gone for the day. When he finally did give in to his body's need for sleep, he used one of the empty quarters near wherever he was that day. If there was a meeting he was needed in, he teleconferenced it; no video, though. He knew he couldn't avoid his lovers forever, but he was trying his best.

Sighing, Radek closed down his tablet and dragged himself over to the nearest empty rooms and fell onto the bed, pausing only long enough to place his glasses and tablet on the bedside table. He was out within moments of hitting the pillow.

Next morning [Tuesday
March 28th, 2006 at 1:45pm]
[ mood | morose ]

Radek was up before the others--a small miracle, really. Nightmares kept waking him and finally he just got up and got ready for the day. He itched for his cloves, but Rodney hadn't gotten them yet and he refused to step into that suite. Showering was an interesting experience because he wanted to scrub a couple layers off but he managed to keep it to a brisk washing. Only just.

A pair of John's boxers, Carson's pants and one of Rodney's shirts later and he's out the door. He doesn't feel like working with others today--not when word of what happened has probably already circulated the grapevine--so he grabs his toolkit, a tablet and heads off to one of the more remote sections of the city to do some repair work. Ten thousand year old equipment needed fixing now and then. Anything to keep his mind off of Rachel, the goa'uld and what happened between the three of them.

Energy spike [Sunday
March 26th, 2006 at 12:18pm]
[ mood | curious ]

Radek was working on adjusting the energy readings for the ZPM when a sudden spike of power on the south pier caught his attention. //What is this?// He checked the readings again. It was a brief spike, but worrying all the same. Then he remembered something. Didn't Rachel say something about going to the south pier?

Eyes widening in horror, Radek dropped his tablet on the table and grabbed his tool belt as he ran from the lab. He gets there just in time to see a flash of white light characteristic to the Asgard transportation beam coming from the room where the power spike originated. He's about to run to the room when first John then Jonny step out. What the hell?

When they leave, Radek approaches the room. He quickly finds the console and determines that it was set to purposely give off a charge. Not enough to kill, no, but enough to render a person unconscious. He looked over his shoulder towards the door, frowning thoughtfully. This was a trap, but who was the target?

Questions building, he fixes the console then goes to Carson. Perhaps his other lover may have a clue. If they were dealing with this level of electricity, then the target would need immediate medical care.

In the gateroom, getting ready for his supposed weekly trip to M7G-677... [Tuesday
March 14th, 2006 at 4:19pm]
[ mood | irritated ]

Radek sighed heavily. He'd managed to dodge this issue for several weeks now without anyone becoming suspicious but there was no more putting it off.

He was going to M7G-677. The 'kiddie' planet. His own personal hell.

The scene was much like it had been that first time: Radek was in front of the stargate making sure the equipment was packed while Rodney watched on from the balcony, smirking. Every once in a while Radek glared up at him and muttered curses in Czech.

\\Don't like kids, huh?\\

Radek looked up at the unfamiliar voice speaking a language he's only heard spoken a handful of times. The new kid, Jonathan O'Neil was smiling at him, hugging a tablet PC and equiped for an offworld mission. Radek was the last of the command staff, to his knowledge, to meet the young man.

But even if he could identify the language, he couldn't understand a word that was said to him. "Excuse me?"

The kid looked confused for a moment then rolled his eyes. "Sorry. I don't always realize I'm speaking Ancient." He turned the tablet around to show Radek what he was working on. Ancient script covered the screen. "I get in this headspace whenever I'm reading it." He held out his hand. "Jonathan O'Neil. You must be Dr. Zelenka."

Taking the young man's hand, Radek nodded. The kid had a strong grip. Odd. "Yes, I am Radek Zelenka. I apologize for not having introduced myself before now, but much has happened lately that has required my attention."

"Nah, it's cool. I've been busy, too." Jonny looked around the control room and chuckled when he saw Rodney watching them on the balcony. "Ah. McKay's shipping you out. What'd you do to piss him off?"

Radek's face darkened for a moment before clearing. He looked up at Rodney then Jonny. "I threatened the life of someone on this base after they humiliated my wife. As punishment, I must do regular maintenence on the shield generator on M7G-677." Radek started coiling a length of cable around his arm, his movements jerky in his anger. "I hate children. I have a nephew. He breaks things, throws things, smears things on the furnature. He is a menace."

Jonny struggles not to laugh, but a small grin still appears. Radek scowls and jerks the cord more visciously. "Ah, I'm sure he isn't that bad. Me? I love kids. Been wanting to visit this place since I first heard about it in the reports." Jonny looked up when Rodney's voice rang through the room.

"Stand back, we're dialling the gate!"

Radek muttered a few of the more volatile curses he knew as he moved out of the way, Jonny beside him. A few moments later the gate opened with it's usual kawoosh and the personnel began filing through. Putting the cord away, Radek looked over at Jonny as he realized something. "You are coming with us?"

The younger man nodded enthusiastically. "Oh yeah. Your report last time said that you came across some Ancient you couldn't translate. Well, that's what I'm here for so..."

"Ah." Radek nodded then pushed his cart through the gate. "Well, come along then." He mutters as he steps through the gate. //Lets get this hell over with.// He could hear Jonny's laugh as he stepped through the event horizon.
